Zena has made herself at home and taken over all Wolf's toys and beds. A very loving girl - very playful and energetic! Loves to help gardening, great if you want to plant large trees! It has taken a while to build her confidence with new situations, other dogs, lawnmowers and Guy Fawkes crackers . They reduced her to a quivering wreck in spite of all the normal precautions.(I hate them too.)
The idea for a greyhound assistance dog was hatched in 2012 when Melanie Donne from the Kotuku Foundation was researching dog breeds for the Foundation's work with disability assistance dogs. Melanie says, "I found that greyhounds have these wonderful qualities that match nearly perfectly the things we're looking for in an assistance dog. We contacted GAP and asked is there a way we could help?"
Priceless (Fancy Freda) has been with us nearly three years now and boy has the time flown by. It feels like she has always been with us! We did some basic obedience classes at dog school in the beginning, but Priceless wasn't really into it. She struggles to sit and will rarely lay down on anything harder than carpet - this generally includes grass.
So how did Crumpet get her name you may ask, well this was my wife's idea actually and pretty much how you would expect it to be conceived. Like we were just sitting down at the breakfast table with a plate of Crumpets (as you do), suddenly my wife (Miyuki) say's "if we end up with a greyhound I think Crumpet would be a neat name." I sighed (of course), as trying to imagine calling a dog by this name...
We picked up Misty (formerly Blue) 5 weeks ago from the kennels in Cambridge. We fell in love with her from the minute we laid eyes on her. Our first image of Misty was her leaping up and down in the kennels with great excitement and even more height.
Olivia came to us in April and we haven't looked back since. 'Libby' as she has affectionately become known, has fitted into life with her pal Stitch, two cats, two rabbits, a guinea pig and a piglet and if you didn't know better you would think she has lived with us her whole life! Libby is the most sweet, loving, cuddly girl we could have wished for and has fitted into pet life like she was made for it. After an initial couple of runs ins with the cats she quickly figured out they aren't for chasing and they have been great mates ever since.
