Join us for the 2017 Great Global Greyhound Walk (GGGW), an international event consisting of coordinated walks around the world involving thousands of hounds and their hoomans to raise awareness and promote greyhound adoption. This event is sponsored by Greyhounds as Pets (GAP), the nationwide charity that works to find homes for greyhounds as they come out of their time in racing.   The theme for GGGW this year is 'Colours of the World', so you can expect it to be a very bright and vibrant display put on by our hounds and humans alike. The theme will highlight not just the fact that greyhounds are one of the most colour-diverse dog breeds in the world, but also the vivid and colourful personalities they bring to hearts and homes in 'retirement'.   GAP is very pleased and honoured to have two VIP guests joining us this year - MP Chris Bishop and Wellington Mayor Juston Lester.   We will kick off with participants assembling at 9:00am at Queen's Wharf under the sails in front of TSB Arena. Members of the public will have a chance to mix and mingle with the dogs, get some hound hugs, find out about greyhounds and how you too can adopt one of these truly special cuddlemonsters. We will have a few words of greeting from our guests, as well as a bit of an informal greyhound costume competition. Last year the International Individual Winner for best costume was from right here in Wellington. We will then move off for the walk itself at 10:00am, heading down the waterfront towards Oriental Parade, and then back again.   The more hounds we have on hand, the bigger the impact this will have on the public who witness the 'parade' go past, so please consider this an 'all hands on deck' event all greyhound owners!   This event is open to all greyhounds and their non-greyhound 'siblings'. Members of the public are most welcome to join us as well. However, it is just asked that anyone choosing to come along for the waterfront walk follow along after all the greyhounds, to allow the hounds the chance to show off and be the focus of the event.   For more information on the GGGW, you can check out the event website at http://www.greatglobalgreyhoundwalk.co.uk/ or email GAP Regional Coordinator Daniel Bohan at daniel@gap.co.nz.
