Tyson

At 8 years old and 42kgs, Tyson is a very special boy. Around four years ago he suffered a brain injury, and since then he experiences the world a little differently. He’s slower to process things, not focused on commands, has no recall, and very much lives life on “island time.” But underneath it all is one incredibly sweet, gentle soul who deserves understanding, patience, and love.

Tyson thrives on routine. He knows when it’s time for bed, food, and walks. He’s fully toilet trained, sleeps beautifully through the night, and is a wonderfully quiet companion. He loves lounging on any soft surface he can find and would happily snooze the day away on a comfy outdoor couch under cover.

While Tyson currently lives in foster in Auckland alongside 10+ dogs of all sizes without issue, he does best with calm, respectful dogs who understand boundaries. He can become overwhelmed by lots of noise, chaos, or little children, and he prefers proper introductions with other dogs rather than excitable face-to-face greetings.

One of the most beautiful things about Tyson is how much his personality shines when he’s relaxed and enjoying life. Water has brought out his softer side, after spending time in ponds and water, he became more affectionate, cuddly, and connected with his humans. He loves his weekly greyhound walks and enjoys a quiet café outings where he can lie comfortably beside his person and not be disturbed by other dogs.

Tyson is looking for an experienced greyhound owner who understands that trust with him is built gently and respectfully. He cannot be manhandled and needs his space respected, especially when sleeping. He responds best to calm handling, patience, and a peaceful home environment.

He’ll need:

  • On-lead walks only
  • A quiet, relaxed home
  • Plenty of soft beds and personal space
  • Someone patient, understanding, and experienced
  • A low or larger car he can comfortably get in and out of

And Tyson comes prepared for his new life too — with his PJs, blankets, toys, games, bowls, food containers, first aid supplies and more. To top it off, Tyson has just had a full dental, so his teeth are sparkling clean and he’s ready for his next chapter.

Tyson may not be the easiest dog to place, but we know there’s someone out there who will see just how special he is. In return, you’ll gain quiet company and the privilege of giving a deserving old boy a peaceful retirement.
