Wendal needs a temporary home - can you help?

Christmas is a great time for relaxing and catching up with family, but unfortunately for Wendal's family things didn't turn out as planned. On Monday his owner, John Etheridge, called asking if we could help find a temporary home for Wendal.  After hearing his story I assured him that I was confident someone would offer Wendal a home for a few months. Please read John's story below and if you can help please contact him directly.

As a family (Valerie, Lexy our daughter and myself) we are looking for potential foster care for Wendal who has been us for almost 3 years, we adopted him from GAP in January 2012.  The reason for this is that Valerie has suffered a ruptured brain aneurism and subsequent bleed on the brain, this has left Valerie very incapacitated and my daughter and I need to focus on Valerie's recovery.  This happened whilst we were on holiday in the Gold Coast in early December. We are all still on the Gold Coast as Valerie is not yet fit to fly home, but we hope to be able to get Valerie back to Auckland in mid-January.

Wendal has been with our family for almost 3 years. He is a large black greyhound with the friendliest temperament.  He is simply a wonderful pet and is very affectionate to everyone. Valerie and Wendal have been regulars walking Milford beach and for the last year Wendal has been off leash with no problems. Wendal simply imperiously ignores aggressive dogs.   Like many greyhounds he has once vice, which is cats, and he still goes after them if allowed. For this reason we keep him muzzled off-leash, but in the last year he responds to our commands to stop.

We are seeking a foster arrangement and are hoping someone will be able to help us.  I realize this is a large commitment to ask of anyone as our aim would be to have Wendal return to live with us. However at this time I simply have no real idea if that will be feasible as Valerie's recovery is only just beginning. Our family time will need to centre around Valerie's needs.  We can contribute food (biscuits) during this time and what we could do is commit to putting a time limit on it, eg, 6 months. If we could not have Wendal return after this time, we could return him to GAP so he can find another loving home.

If you think you may be able to help please contact John Etheridge by email or phone +61 41249 5241. John and Valerie live in North Shore, Auckland but are currently in Australia.
