Update on Gina

I thought I'd send you a quick email and give you an update on how things are going with Gina.

She is doing really really well. I have taken down the safety gate between our room and the lounge today that was the barrier between her and the cat. So far so good. From day one we haven't allowed her to go into Ollie's room, and so I think this should be an easy transition.

Her and Judd are doing really well. I did wonder if we'd ever get there, but the cat can sit a couple of feet from Gina and she won't go near him. It's almost like she thinks even looking at him is wrong. He'll walk into a room and she'll turn her head the other way and not look at him. Judd has even relaxed and doesn't budge when she gets up and walks around now. So that is really good.

We took the plunge last week as it had been raining a lot and she'd been stuck inside, and we shut the top gate and let her loose on the farm. We were really worried that she wouldn't come back or would chase the chickens or cats, but to our surprise she did her little blat around, then came and walked with us the rest of the time. Judd even followed us and sat at the side of the paddock, she knew he was there and just ran straight past him. We have her muzzled, so we're not worried about the cats or chickens, but it's so nice that we can do that with her now. I even went to the car yesterday to get something and forgot to shut the gate, and Gina was standing inside the gate patiently waiting for me to get back. And when she's had enough running around, she will run back to the gate, then sit there and look at us as if to say 'come on, let me back in, I want to go to bed now."

We think she is finally settling and knows that we're her family. We spent the night in hospital with Ollie over the weekend (broke his foot) and had my in laws come sit with her in the evening. And she was fine with them, but they said she knew we weren't there, and was so excited when she heard Matt come home. So that was really nice.

She has been a little sick. the vet wasn't too sure what it was, but we've got her on the vets intestinal food now and she is doing really well. Ollie and I did pop out to the supermarket the other day though and left her, for what was probably the first time in over a month I think. Someone has always been home with her or she goes to work with Matt. And not too long after I got home she vomited. So I'm not sure if she just gets a bit too upset when we're out, or if it was just a fluke thing. But it hasn't happened since, and she hasn't been left either.

Matt would LOVE to get another Greyhound right this second too. I would love another too but I think we'll hold off for just a bit :) But I do think Genie would absolutely love to have a buddy, and it might make her a little more settled on those odd occasions when she is left at home. But right now we are good with the one :)

Anyway, my quick update has turned into a novel. But I just wanted to let you know that all is well, and Gina is doing fabulously. We adore her to bits, she is such a joy to have around. And we are loving seeing her personality emerge bit by bit.

Thanks again
Crystal
