Update on Frank (Eric - Unraced)

Auckland owner, Nancy Grice, sent this endearing update on the "small horse" Frank.

"It was initially my husband Adam that suggested we look into adopting a Greyhound.  He had read an article about what great pets they make. That and also the size of the greyhound was a factor as neither of us were interested in getting a small dog.  At first I wasn't convinced at the thought of owning a dog skinnier and more attractive than me, but after looking on the GAP site, I was soon on the phone to Karen and Steve!!  We decided that we wanted a big dog (in fact I may have said 'small horse' on the adoption form), and as we needed a 'cat trainable' dog, we knew that we might be in for a wait.

After pestering Irene and Danielle for a while, we finally got the call that there was a dog for us.   Frank was just over a year old when we got him and as such he had never raced.  He was originally named Eric (poor thing didn't even get a race name).  And after talking to his trainer, I found out that Frank was more interested in playing and having his tummy rubbed than chasing a lure!  In other words he was hopeless for the race track perfect for pet life! Lucky for us!

Frank very quickly settled into home life with myself, Adam, Ella, Matilda and Eddy the cat.  Although he was scared stiff of the cat for weeks he took to pet life like a duck to water - literally - he fell in the pond five minutes after arriving home!!

We have been involved in a local agility course for a few weeks now.  I saw an advert in the local pet shop, and thought it would be fun, and given that when out walking with Frank you never know what side of the pavement he will end up on, I thought he might be good at the weave poles (he isn't by the way).  He loves the hurdles and the long jump though.

Frank is a fabulous big dog, with a great laid back (sometimes goofy) nature.  He is getting to be a bit of a celebrity in the neighbourhood, with people stopping us to ask about him.  He also loves hanging out and running with greyt friends Blaze and Floyd at the dog park."
