Update on Crumpet (Grace - Jetsun Dream)

So how did Crumpet get her name you may ask, well this was my wife's idea actually and pretty much how you would expect it to be conceived.  Like we were just sitting down at the breakfast table with a plate of Crumpets (as you do), suddenly my wife (Miyuki) say's "if we end up with a greyhound I think Crumpet would be a neat name." I sighed (of course), as trying to imagine calling a dog by this name... 'here Crumpet, here Crumpet...' while neighbours looked on wondering  what this silly guy is doing calling/looking for Crumpet ..!!  Then thinking of a compromise (after other names that I brought to the table had failed), I remembered a talk back hosts' name on Radio Live a couple of years back, Martin Crump (son of Barry Crump), and some of the people that called into the show would call him Crumpy for short.. so yeah, I ran this by the wife and she gave it the green light haha... so that's how Crumpet and her nickname came about.

Crumpet has settled really well, we also have a cat that she initially kept trying to play with, that was until the cat (Gago, an older cat, that doesn't take any crap, not even from something 3 times it's size), gave Crumpet a bit of a hiss and couple of quick paw jabs. Now they co-exist with an understanding of where the boundaries are, even though I can see Crumpy would love to have a game haha...

We received Crumpet with a grade 3 heart murmur, which we were fully aware of at the time of adopting her, and have since taken her to our vet  to get an idea exactly how to care for a dog with this type of condition.  We were told she will be fine so long as she doesn't over exert herself and in the summer months not to take her walking in the heat of the day, so we adhere to this and she's been great.

We have also found her very easy to train.  She never knew how to sit when we first got her, so we used the food reward system as a tool to assist us.   She also used to stand right in front of us and put on the big sad face when we sat at the table for a meal, so we said no just a few times and she then backed up and lay down on the floor.  We were surprised how well she responded to simple instructions.

She's a really neat dog, and integrated so well that she's become an important part of our family now... would also like to give a big thanks to Danielle (GAP - Manawatu) for bringing us all together, oh yes and also a big thanks to Christiana for delivering her to us here in Auckland.

Cheers, Mike
