The latest from Snowflake, our disability dog in training

Ada, my Husky friend, and I went on holiday for the Christmas and New Year period. We had a great time away staying with friends and family! We both wish you a happy New Year and hope that your Christmas and New Year were wonderful too!

Under the tree

Ada likes to go swimming. I like to paddle in our paddling pool at my foster parent's house. I thought I might give swimming a go. It turned out I was better at sinking than swimming. Just as well there was a trained life-guard on hand to rescue me!

Attempt to swim

I was fortunate enough to meet this "little man€ when Ada and I were away on holiday. Ada and I were very careful and gentle around him as he is only 6 months old!

Little man

There is nothing better than a run at full speed! Ada is also pretty quick, and she can turn and change directions very fast! We have fun playing tag together!

Running free

Ada and I went for a walk in the Tararua Ranges. We went across the Waiohine Gorge swing bridge. The bridge is 40 metres high and 124 metres long. Ada is very brave and she crossed it easily. I was big and brave too and made it across the bridge as well. I watched my step very carefully!

While Ada and I were away we got to meet Melanie who is the Founder of the Kotuku Foundation Assistance Animals Aotearoa (KFAAA). She is a wonderful person and she gave Ada and me lots of pats! Melanie organised a photo session with us and two other KFAAA dogs, Lola (who is my 'twin' and a Therapy dog) and Rica (who is Melanie's Assistance dog). Ada is well through her training to become my foster Mum's Diabetes Response Dog. Ada will be the first Diabetes Response Dog in New Zealand and the first Siberian Husky ever to work as an Assistance dog.

Holiday Visit

After a busy day of training, outings, and playing, there is nothing better than having a nap with your friend.

Nap time

Walking along the beach is fun! It is very pretty and there are many different beaches to go to. There are all these amazing smells, as well as kids playing, people swimming, dogs running, picnics, and seagulls. I like to see people out and enjoying themselves with their friends and family.

At the beach

Ada and I frequently go to the hospital to visit people who are very sick. The people there like to pat us and talk to us. They also like to talk to our foster parents while we take a sneaky nap!

Hospital visits

My foster parents take Ada and me to the markets. They like to get breakfast for themselves, and Ada and I enjoy seeing all the different stalls. We are very good and make sure we don't take any interest in food on the floor, the people walking past, rubbish bins, or other dogs that may be there. There is a lot going on at the markets!

Well that's it from me for the moment, keep an eye out for part 3 of my blog!
