The Foxton crochet & knitting group

The Foxton crochet & knitting group currently have around 17 members, the group has been meeting regularly for over 6 years.

A few members of the group kindly made some knitted/crochet greyhound hats and snoods for GAP (see attached photos). They enjoyed having something different to do, supporting GAP and seeing our website photos of greyhounds wearing their hats.

Members joined the group for various reasons, such as being new to the area and wanting to meet people, or being at a loose end after their husband passed, which they say has led to meeting some amazing people.

Mary says “The friendships extend beyond meeting on a Thursday and as we are all getting older we gain support from each other’s experiences.  We also have lunch together after the crafts. They are all talented in different handcrafts and I look forward to seeing them each Thursday.”

“Donna at our group taught me the very basic first stitches of crochet about 12 months ago. Not only did I gain an enjoyable skill but I have found kindred spirits in the ladies who come along each week.”

Group projects are encouraged, such as the Christmas tree, along with group trips to events such as the Feilding Craft Market.

The groups favourite things to make:

  • Peggy squares

  • Baby clothes

  • Dog coats

There is an upcoming exhibition featuring work by the Foxton Crochet & Knitting Group during 3rd Dec – 6th Jan at Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom in Foxton. A group project Christmas Tree made with approx. 300 individual crochet “Peggy” squares will be at the centre of the exhibition.
