Brits at the Beach

A group of us toodled off with our hounds to Whangamata on Saturday 5th October to be part of the annual Brits At The Beach Celebration. What a fantastic event€¦!

Many thanks to Jan and Tom for organising our site, setting up and looking after the day in general - and of course many thanks to those who took part€¦

We got the GAP Shop box out at the end and sold a toy and poo bags€¦.and also had $47.50 in our donation tin. Wonderful interest and positive feedback€¦.definitely back next year! Lily needs to practice her agility and realise it is a speed race and not about stepping over things elegantly. Yonce fared much better - well done Tom!

Many thanks to Jan for sending in the following report on the day€¦ enjoy!

Hi Folks,

Firstly a BIG THANKYOU to you all for coming along yesterday to share what was a brilliant, entertaining, busy day set in a superb domain with a carnival atmosphere.

Tom and I made an effort to get there early only to find that our spot in the market square had been taken up by people who had used up more space than they were allotted.  Colin the organiser was very aplogetic, but I think the space we took was a good spot and certainly caught the eye of all people coming  in and going out.

There was a lot of enquiries and Tom and I could never have coped with them all ourselves without having you there to answer questions as well.

People were so positive and a lot said they knew people with hounds or had seen them in their neighbourhood or town and had admired them.  I felt at the end of the day I had repeated myself so many times I must have sounded like a broken record.

I did get some asking me if the hounds there were available for adoption as they would take one home and one man quite seriously asked me if there was something wrong with Zena's backside because of the black spots on her skin !!

We handed out many brochures and some people came back 2/3 times to pat the hounds and ask more questions. Everyone was genuinely interested and so hopefully we will get some applications from the area.

The Scruff Show was a real hoot and such fun. Didnt we look spiffing ? I really thought I should have won the lookalike, and Lily the stand/sit contest.  They chose other dogs, wonder why?  Anne, Sharon and Victoria, you looked splendid in your outfits, whot !

Enclosed some photos taken.  Sam you are a terrible photographer.

The girls were absolutely had it by the time we got home and after their early tea, they crashed and there was not a peep out of them until it was time to go to bed. Even Yonce who always sings when the ANZ advert comes on, did not seem to be aware of it last night !

What a lovely day it was and a good time was had by all. Lets do it again next year.  Thanks again everyone.
