April is Adopt a Greyhound month - one of our favourite times of the year!
Not only do we get to celebrate what great family members our favourite four-legged friends make, but Adopt a Greyhound Month also inspires so many heart warming Greyhound stories that get sent our way. While every month is Adopt a Greyhound Month for us here at GAP, April gives us the opportunity to share some of your stories which inspire others to welcome a Greyhound into their lives.
Here's what you can do through out the month of April to help Greyhounds all over New Zealand find their forever homes:
- Tell the world. Change your social media profile and/or cover photo to share it with friends. Create your own images, or use these:
- Share and repost. Visit Greyhounds as Pets on Facebook and Instagram and help spread the love and awareness of having Greyhounds as Pets! You can repost on your story, like, comment and tag your family and friends to get the conversation going.
- Attend an event. GAP has plenty of events throughout April, including Adoption Days in Auckland and Christchurch, and social Pat & Chats in other areas. This is a great way to get your Greyhound cuddles, and learn more about adoption and pet life for Greyhounds. Invite your family and friends along for a day full of doggy love and fun!
- Volunteer, Foster or Adopt. The most simple and effective ways to help Greyhounds have a smooth transition into their retirement, from kennel to couch, is to volunteer, foster or adopt!
- Volunteering at events like Pat & Chats and Adoption days is a fun and interactive way of connecting potential adopters to their perfect Greyhound match.
- Fostering not only means you get to support a Greyhound as they adjust to pet life, you also become an integrate part of their journey to adoption. Fosterers are encouraged to send updates, including photos and videos to GAP, as well as attend GAP Events so show case them to the world and match them with the perfect home.
- Adopting a Greyhound is the ultimate end goal for each and every Greyhound who comes into our care. Need we say more?
- Donate. Your donation supports retired racing Greyhounds on their journey from kennel to couch. This includes: veterinary appointments, behavioural consultations, physical therapy treatments, food, treats and gear for foster care, kennelling costs and fuel to travel to and from appointments and meet and greets with potential adoptees.
- Steadfast Friends is our regular giving programme which allows individuals and businesses show their continued support with regular donations every week, month or year. Helping a Greyhound into their retirement home is an invaluable gift, and for as little as the cost of a cup of coffee a week you can make a greyt impact on a hound’s life.
