Lucy

Lucy now lives in New Plymouth with her greyhound brother Wizard :)

Lucy (Pure Desire) and Wizard (Wizard Appeal) have been part of our family now for a little over 2 years and we love having them in the home with us and sharing our lives with them. Lucy was the first to arrive and it would be fair to say that although she’s still the delicate little girl that we fell in love with she’s no longer a kleptomaniac with a penchant for eating the dictionary, tissues, toilet rolls and on one occasion stealing some homework of the table…the only thing that we can put that change down to was the arrival of Wizard.
Once Wizard had arrived and settled in Lucy quickly assumed the position of Area Manager and certainly runs a tight ship as far as Wizard is concerned. With the exception of one small disagreement about a week after Wizard arrived they both get along extremely well – there has been the odd occasion where one or the other has been on light duties due to a sprain or injury from running in the back yard, and when just one of them is being walked without their partner in crime then “misery” is certainly the best word to describe the attitude.
Lucy (or Lucy Lu, Lulu and even Pointy Black Dog) has a real cheeky streak and loves to hide from Wizard (A.K.A. Wiz, Wizzy Boy, Big Fella and sometimes Dufus) when he’s running with the express intention of leaping out at him, growling and stamping her front feet at him. This invariably sets Wiz off into either more running, pouncing or turning in tight circles…well, as tight as he can get anyway as he tends to “lollop” around while Lucy turns in ever decreasing circles at ever increasing speeds.
Both Wiz and Lucy love their walks, twice a day religiously, and they have their favourite routes as well, one of which is to go and see their Nana and Poppa. Everybody that comes over falls in love with them almost instantly as they quickly learned to line up for cuddles (in fact, it would be fair to say that Lucy is nothing more than a cuddle whore, prostituting herself to whoever leaves a hand hanging beside the table or couch). They both enjoy having our daughters friends around and always have a loving welcome for whoever comes into the house before heading back to their beds (either in the lounge or beside our bed), and occasionally they’ll even venture out to the garden to see what we’re doing. If they can be bothered expending the energy.
We recently made the journey to Colville in the Coromandel for the Winter Wonderland gathering, along with Derek & Shirley Birt and their two hounds, Nellie and Mac. This proved to be an excellent adventure for all involved and Lucy and Wiz were, without any doubt, the most wonderful hounds at the gathering. Lucy can sometimes come across as the shy and retiring type but she proved that weekend that she can also be something of a socialite (as well as confirming her love of the kitchen as her favourite room in any house) while Wiz took everything his stride, behaved like a perfect gentleman and made lots of new friends…thankfully we didn’t feed him any chicken that weekend because if he has chicken you can guarantee that about an hour later that boy can clear a room with very little effort!
Wiz and Lucy are both very much included in and part of our family and we wouldn’t have it any other way – they are both loving, beautiful hounds and certainly haven’t complained yet about the softness of their beds, cuddles on demand, daily walks and luxurious life that they’re leading in retirement. We love having them around and we love the lifestyle that they’ve bought with them – it would be fair to say that since they’ve come into our lives we’ve made some greyt friends both locally and further afield thanks to having these two amazing family members.
