Adventures in the Chatham's

In June, Petal and Blue started a new adventure with a move to the Chatham Islands - we look forward to following them in their new part of the world.

We were off on our new adventure in early June. Our home was packed up around us, then we were bundled into a car a taken into Wellington. We were then taken to a very busy Wellington airport - quite a change from our quiet lifestyle block in Martinborough!

Angels Come in Black Lilo – Racing to the Podium

Every now and then in life, a day happens that you never see coming, but one that will stay with you forever. This day with Lilo was Sunday 19th March 2017 at the Cambridge Raceway.

Lilo’s owner and trainer, Max Mathews of Litchfield Kennels was celebrating his 90th birthday at the Cambridge Raceway, as the Tokoroa Greyhound Racing Club hosted an afternoon of racing. Howard (my partner), and I were invited to join Max and his family, as Lilo was a rather special hound to this family, to say the least.

Memo from the Board

The Board has appointed John Telfer as National Coordinator for one year on a fixed term contract. The Greyhound Adoption Programme Trust is undertaking a reconfiguration of its goals and procedures. The Board considers a year is sufficient time to achieve these goals.

John will lead that process, also temporarily adopting the authorities and responsibilities of the Programme Director.

He is committed to ensuring our wonderful team have the resources necessary to increase our annual adoptions whilst maintaining the Trust’s financial stability.

Lilo – Angels Come in Black - All I want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth

Well, ‘twas the week before Christmas and all through the house……………there was the fragrance of sardines. Lilo is partial to them – one oily one with each meal gives her a glossy coat and a sea-shanty breath.

Being fussy about teeth, I thought that the breath might be due to teeth needing attention. We have a regular dental each year and it was due.

Memo from the Board

The Greyhound Adoption Programme Trust Board wishes to advise that it has accepted Noel Brown's resignation from his position as Programme Director effective Friday 3 February 2017. Noel leaves with the Board's best wishes in his future endeavours. At present, a replacement for Noel has not been made but the Board is exploring a number of options and will update you accordingly. In the interim, any urgent matters can be addressed to the Board Chair, Alastair Donald, otherwise it is business as usual and all normal GAP activities will continue to be delivered as they are now.

Update on Zia (Scott No Finding)

We recently adopted our greyhound Zia from the GAP kennels in Levin, having farewelled 2 much loved terriers over the past 2 years.  We were immediately besotted with our 8 year old gorgeous girl.   I thought that a good way to do a bit of fundraising and awareness of the adoption programme would be to promote GAP during the Kapiti Arts Trail (I am a potter/ceramic artist, Greendale Studio Ceramics in Otaihanga). This was held over 2 weekends in Oct /Nov and is an event where Kapiti artists  open up their studios to the public once a year.
