Greyhounds Represented at Paws in the Park

Today was the annual 'Paws in the Park' at Tunnel Gully in Upper Hutt. It's a chance for dogs and their owners to go on a bush walk and watch displays from our local Upper Hutt Dog Training Club. This year the organisers estimated they had over 110 dogs and our greyhounds were well represented with 13 hounds turning up to join in the fun!

There was a huge variety of breeds on show today and walking Tane's track with them all was fun (well at least the down parts were fun.. the uphill sections not so much!) One of my highlights was the joy an owner of a labradoodle took in overtaking a greyhound on the walk, to be fair my Sam (Gridiron) had stopped to admire the scenery! But as the owner quite rightly pointed out, it was her dog's only chance to beat a greyhound!
The rest of the time was spent avoiding the sun from the spectacular summer in the Hutt Valley, whilst watching the impressive displays from the Upper Hutt Dog Training School and then for our gamer hounds trying out the course itself. I think we have some future agility stars in our midst! (eh Sasha!)

The Coon Hound

It was also an awesome chance to meet a huge range of other breeds and one of the favourites of the show was the amasing Coon Hound Floyd (pictured). A fun day out was had by all and we had some tired hounds in the car on the way home.
